NRP (Nordic Research Program)
The IEWS had established plans to become a world class area research institute, especially in the are of european studies. as a result, the institute established the Yonsei-SERI EU Centre in March 2009, and in November 2009 was selected by the Korea Research Foundation to carry out research on "European Union and Post-Boundary Civilization History : Ideals, Mechanisms, and Institutional Factors". The Nordic Research Program was selected as the principal research center. the NRP focuses its research on the nordic region, and has estalished a research network with the area studies department and the EU Centre. It has also signed an MOU with the Nordic Institute of Asian Studies, and has held many academic conferences with Sweden's Uppsala University.
International Development and Cooperation Program
The purpose of the International Development Cooperation Program Center is to study economic development experience of Korea, and to compare it to those of advanced countries. Eventually, it is the goal of this program to transfer the Korean experience to developing economies. The main activities of this program are to host and participate in seminars and symposiums that are relevant to this purpose. Also, this program actively participates in research projects and promotes educational programs through the cooperation of the Institute of East and West Studies.
Doowon Lee is a professor at the School of Economics, Yonsei University, Seoul, Korea. Currently, he is the chairman of the School of Economics, Yonsei University. He acquired his B.A. in business administration from Yonsei University in 1987, and acquired his Ph.D. in economics from Northwestern University in 1991. Major careers of his include visiting professor at the University of California-San Diego in 1992 and 2002, associate dean at the Graduate School of Economics in Yonsei University (2004-2008), associate dean at Underwood International College in Yonsei University (2007-2009), visiting scholar at Columbia University (2009-2010), independent director at the Korea Housing Finance Corporation (2008-2010), and general secretary and editorial member in numerous academic associations. He has published roughly 50 academic papers, book chapters, and books. He joined domestic and international conferences roughly 160 times. Also, he has contributed to more than 170 newspaper columns in domestic and international newspapers.
